We Are Southren Group: Rebecca Marquez

At Southren Group, we believe in celebrating the individuals who make our mission possible. This month, we’re thrilled to shine the spotlight on Rebecca Marquez, our talented and thoughtful Administrative and Operational Assistant.

Rebecca plays a crucial role behind the scenes, ensuring that our operations run smoothly and that our clients feel welcomed and supported from the moment they engage with us. With a background in cultural studies and visual arts, Rebecca brings a creative lens to her work, which spans managing the team’s calendar, updating our CRM systems, and coordinating group programs.

But Rebecca’s contributions go far beyond logistics. Her ability to thoughtfully connect with clients during onboarding reflects her commitment to fostering a positive experience for everyone who works with Southren Group. “I love helping communicate project goals and keeping things running smoothly,” Rebecca shares. “It’s fulfilling to support our team and clients in ways that align with their goals.”

One of Rebecca’s most memorable experiences at Southren Group was supporting the development of the Women Managing Partner Forum. “Jane and the team had created the foundation for the program and then brought in willing clients as collaborators in this new venture,” Rebecca recalls. “I was invited to provide administrative support, and it was exciting and heartening to see how the leadership’s vision infused every step of the process. It was a perfect example of how Southren Group’s values shape not just what we do, but how we do it.”

This collaborative approach deeply resonates with Rebecca. “In my role, I aim and am encouraged to take ownership of my work, but I know that when I need support, it’s there,” she says. “I carry this sense of empowerment into all aspects of my role. Wherever I can, I aim to collaborate with the team and clients to build shared success. And I believe the team exemplifies the mission and core values that are then reflected in the programs offered by Southren.”

Growing up in Cambridge, Ontario, Rebecca’s appreciation for diverse perspectives was shaped by her family’s multicultural roots—her father’s Mexican heritage and her mother’s multi-generational Canadian background. Early experiences with art and storytelling inspired Rebecca’s passion for creativity, which continues to inform her work today. “Whether through painting, drawing, or coordinating operations, I’ve always been drawn to the narrative thread that connects people’s journeys,” she reflects.

Outside of work, Rebecca channels her creative energy into art and exploration. She enjoys hiking, camping, and discovering new cities—always with friends and family by her side. These pursuits, she says, give her a fresh perspective that she brings back to her work.

When asked what she loves most about working at Southren Group, Rebecca points to the team. “I’m inspired by the strengths of the women I work with. It’s a supportive environment that encourages creativity and exploration,” she says. “In my role, I’ve been able to nurture autonomy and take ownership of my work, which has been invaluable.”

Rebecca’s ability to blend operational expertise with her creative spirit makes her an indispensable part of the Southren Group team. Her thoughtful approach and dedication embody the very values that define us—Connectedness, Growth, and Empowerment.

We’re so grateful for the impact Rebecca has on our team and our clients. Thank you, Rebecca, for all that you do to help Southren Group thrive!
